Battery Storage

A battery sized to your evening load and wired to actually keep the lights on. We size to how much you really use after dark, fit a backup gateway when blackout protection matters, and show the payback with the current rebates as a line, not a headline.

What keeps the lights on

Backup needs a gateway, not just a battery.

When the grid drops, a solar or battery system shuts down for safety unless a backup gateway is wired in to island your essential circuits.

For line-worker safety the inverter disconnects. With no gateway, the whole house goes dark.
Scope

What this job includes.

  • Hybrid (new solar + battery) and retrofit (add to existing solar)
  • Backup gateway wiring for essential circuits or whole-home
  • Evening-load sizing from your metered usage
  • Federal and state battery rebates and VPP options, shown on the quote
  • Tesla Powerwall and other certified batteries, named and warranted
Our system: Backup and blackout protection are not the same thing, and we make the difference clear before you buy. The battery is sized to your evening load, the backup gateway and the circuits it covers are on the quote, and the rebate is a figure, not a promise.
Estimator

Size it for yourself, in three clicks.

A starting point using the same logic we use on site. Indicative only, not a quote.

Your average quarterly electricity bill

Indicative only. A real number comes from a site assessment with the usage read, the shading studied and the switchboard checked. This tool sizes a starting point, not a quote.

How we quote it

The same itemised quote, every time.

Whatever the job, your quote names the panel and inverter, sizes the system to your bill and shows the STC as a figure, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

The scope and compliance sheet
  1. 1 Sized to your bill. The array is sized to your metered usage and load profile, not to the biggest rebate on offer.
  2. 2 Panel, named. The exact SunPower (or specified) panel on the quote, with its product and performance warranty, not "premium panels".
  3. 3 Inverter, named. The exact Fronius (or specified) inverter and its warranty, sized to the array, not the cheapest unit on the van.
  4. 4 Shading + roof study. Orientation, pitch and shade assessed on site, with optimisers or microinverters specified where the roof needs them.
  5. 5 STCs shown as a dollar line. The federal STC incentive applied as a point-of-sale figure: gross price, STC value, net. Never a vague "rebate applied".
  6. 6 Warranties, itemised. Panel product, panel performance, inverter and workmanship listed separately with their years, so you can compare like for like.
  7. 7 Compliance + paperwork. Installed by our own crew to AS/NZS 5033 and 4777, with the Certificate of Electrical Safety and Certificate of Compliance named as deliverables.
If a quote does not show these lines, you cannot compare it, and you do not know what has been cut.
How it runs

What happens, step by step.

1

Site + usage assessment

We read your bills and load profile, study the roof orientation, pitch and shading, and check the switchboard and supply.

2

Design + named quote

You get the system sized to your usage, the panel and inverter named with their warranties, and the STC shown as a dollar line. The workings are on the page.

3

Approval + grid paperwork

Fixed scope, STCs handled, and the grid-connection and metering application lodged with your network and retailer.

4

In-house install

Our own crew installs to AS/NZS 5033 and 4777, never subcontracted. Staged around your trading hours for commercial sites.

5

Test + commission

Every string tested, the inverter commissioned and monitored, and the Certificate of Electrical Safety and Compliance issued.

6

Handover + monitoring

Monitoring set up on your phone, the warranties and certificates in your hand, and a walk-through of how the system runs.

Accredited, covered, warranted

The paperwork behind the price.

SAA SAA-PLACEHOLDER, EC-PLACEHOLDER, Public liability insured, and a Workmanship warranty workmanship warranty. All in writing, all on the quote.

A walk through exactly what is covered: the SAA accreditation and licence you can verify, the cover that protects your home, and the warranty that names its own exclusions instead of hiding them.

The licence, the cover, the warranty, and how to check each one.

Questions, answered

Common Battery Storage questions.

What is the difference between backup and blackout protection? +
A battery on its own does not power your home in an outage. Blackout protection needs a backup gateway that isolates your home from the grid and switches the battery to run your circuits. We tell you which circuits stay live (essential or whole-home) and put the gateway on the quote, so "backup" actually means backup.
What is the payback now, with the rebates? +
Better than it was, and we model it on your bill. With the Federal battery discount and any state incentive, plus any VPP income, payback on a well-sized battery has come down. We show the numbers against your actual evening usage and tariff before you commit, because an oversized battery never pays back.
How big a battery do I need? +
It is set by your evening load, not the headline kWh. Most homes use the bulk of their power after the sun goes down, so we size the battery to cover that window. For an average home that is often in the 10 to 13.5kWh range, and the estimator on our pricing page gives you a starting point.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar? +
Usually yes, as a retrofit. We check your existing inverter and decide whether an AC-coupled battery or a hybrid inverter swap suits your system, then size and wire it. The compatibility check is the first thing we do, and the approach is on the quote.
Which loads stay on during an outage? +
Whatever you choose and the system can carry. Essential-circuit backup keeps lights, the fridge, power points and the internet going, which suits most homes. Whole-home backup needs a bigger system and usually three phase. We set the circuits with you and label them.
Is it worth joining a VPP? +
Sometimes, and it depends on the trade-off. A Virtual Power Plant pays you to let the retailer use some of your stored energy at peak times, which adds income but gives up some control. We explain the terms for the VPPs available on your battery so you can choose with the numbers in front of you.
What is the net payback on a battery after the 2026 rebate? +
Better than it has ever been, but still set by your evening usage, not the headline kWh. With the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate off the upfront cost and any VPP income on top, a well-sized battery for a high-evening-use home is landing in the rough range of seven to ten years, and we model it on your actual bill before you commit. An oversized battery never pays back, so we size to the load, not the rebate.
Which battery brand and size do you recommend for me? +
We name it on the quote with the reasoning, rather than fitting one brand to everyone. We are Tesla Powerwall certified and install other tier-one batteries, and the right size comes from your metered evening load, usually 10 to 13.5kWh for an average home. You will see the exact model, its warranty and why it suits your usage, not a generic "battery included" line.
Are there new battery install safety rules I should know about? +
Yes. Battery installation is tightly regulated for placement, clearances and fire safety under the current standards, and a compliant install matters for both safety and your insurance. Our own crew installs to those rules and issues the compliance paperwork, which is one more reason we do not subcontract battery work.
