EV Chargers

An EV charger your switchboard can actually carry. We start with a load check, not a sales sheet, so you get the right charger for your supply and phase, load management where the board needs it, and the cost of any upgrade up front instead of after the deposit.

Load management keeps it under the limit.

A smart charger watches the main and backs off when the house draws hard, so the total never trips the supply.

Scope

What this job includes.

  • Home 7kW single-phase and 22kW three-phase chargers
  • Switchboard and supply load check before anything is quoted
  • Load management and OCPP for commercial, fleet and strata
  • Solar-smart charging from your excess generation
  • Destination and workplace charging with billing and access control
Our system: The switchboard load check comes first, every time. We confirm your phase and spare capacity, quote any board upgrade as a line, and set load management where the supply needs it, so the charger does not trip the house or sit on an unsafe shared circuit.
Estimator

Size it for yourself, in three clicks.

A starting point using the same logic we use on site. Indicative only, not a quote.

Your average quarterly electricity bill

Indicative only. A real number comes from a site assessment with the usage read, the shading studied and the switchboard checked. This tool sizes a starting point, not a quote.

Scorecard

Will your switchboard carry a charger?

The load check is the first thing we do on site. Get an early read in a minute.

Is your home solar, battery and EV ready?

Five questions. It takes a minute and tells you whether your switchboard and supply can carry solar, a battery or a charger, or whether a small upgrade comes first. Indicative only, not a substitute for a site check.

1. Single or three phase power?
2. How old is your switchboard?
3. Does the board have safety switches (RCDs)?
4. What is your main roof like?
5. Main switch rating, if you know it

Answer all five to see your readiness.

How we quote it

The same itemised quote, every time.

Whatever the job, your quote names the panel and inverter, sizes the system to your bill and shows the STC as a figure, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

The scope and compliance sheet
  1. 1 Sized to your bill. The array is sized to your metered usage and load profile, not to the biggest rebate on offer.
  2. 2 Panel, named. The exact SunPower (or specified) panel on the quote, with its product and performance warranty, not "premium panels".
  3. 3 Inverter, named. The exact Fronius (or specified) inverter and its warranty, sized to the array, not the cheapest unit on the van.
  4. 4 Shading + roof study. Orientation, pitch and shade assessed on site, with optimisers or microinverters specified where the roof needs them.
  5. 5 STCs shown as a dollar line. The federal STC incentive applied as a point-of-sale figure: gross price, STC value, net. Never a vague "rebate applied".
  6. 6 Warranties, itemised. Panel product, panel performance, inverter and workmanship listed separately with their years, so you can compare like for like.
  7. 7 Compliance + paperwork. Installed by our own crew to AS/NZS 5033 and 4777, with the Certificate of Electrical Safety and Certificate of Compliance named as deliverables.
If a quote does not show these lines, you cannot compare it, and you do not know what has been cut.
How it runs

What happens, step by step.

1

Site + usage assessment

We read your bills and load profile, study the roof orientation, pitch and shading, and check the switchboard and supply.

2

Design + named quote

You get the system sized to your usage, the panel and inverter named with their warranties, and the STC shown as a dollar line. The workings are on the page.

3

Approval + grid paperwork

Fixed scope, STCs handled, and the grid-connection and metering application lodged with your network and retailer.

4

In-house install

Our own crew installs to AS/NZS 5033 and 4777, never subcontracted. Staged around your trading hours for commercial sites.

5

Test + commission

Every string tested, the inverter commissioned and monitored, and the Certificate of Electrical Safety and Compliance issued.

6

Handover + monitoring

Monitoring set up on your phone, the warranties and certificates in your hand, and a walk-through of how the system runs.

Accredited, covered, warranted

The paperwork behind the price.

SAA SAA-PLACEHOLDER, EC-PLACEHOLDER, Public liability insured, and a Workmanship warranty workmanship warranty. All in writing, all on the quote.

A walk through exactly what is covered: the SAA accreditation and licence you can verify, the cover that protects your home, and the warranty that names its own exclusions instead of hiding them.

The licence, the cover, the warranty, and how to check each one.

Questions, answered

Common EV Chargers questions.

Will my switchboard support a charger? +
That is the first thing we check, before we quote. We open the board, confirm your phase, spare ways and main switch rating, and work out whether it can carry a charger as is or needs an upgrade. The switchboard scorecard on our pricing page gives you an early read, and the site check confirms it.
What is the difference between 7kW and 22kW? +
Mostly your supply. A 7kW charger runs on single-phase power and fully charges most EVs overnight, which is plenty for a home. 22kW needs three-phase supply and charges far faster, which suits two-car homes, workplaces and fleets. If you are on single phase, 22kW means a supply upgrade, and we cost that before you decide.
Can I charge from my solar? +
Yes, with a solar-smart charger. It can be set to draw only your excess solar, so you charge on free generation instead of buying from the grid, or to top up at a set rate when you need the range. We match the charger to your solar and how you drive.
Do I need load management? +
Often, on a busy board or with more than one charger. Load management throttles the charger when the rest of the house or site is drawing hard, so you avoid nuisance tripping and an unsafe overload. For commercial and fleet sites with multiple chargers it is essential, and we set it up.
What does an install actually cost? +
A 7kW home charger is typically in the $1,200 to $2,800 range installed. The variable is the switchboard: if it needs an upgrade or you need three-phase supply for 22kW, that is a real cost, between roughly $3,000 and $8,000, and we put it on the quote before you commit, never after.
Does OCPP lock me to one app or network? +
Not if the charger is properly OCPP-compliant, which is what we fit for commercial and fleet sites. Open Charge Point Protocol lets you move between management platforms rather than being tied to one vendor. For workplaces it also handles billing, access control and load sharing across multiple chargers.
Can I schedule charging for cheap or surplus-solar hours? +
Yes, and it is one of the best reasons to get a smart charger. We can set it to draw only your excess solar so you charge on free generation, or to top up during off-peak tariff windows overnight. We match the charging mode to your solar, your tariff and how far you drive.
Will an EV charger affect my solar rebate or export? +
No, adding a charger does not touch your existing STCs, and charging from your own solar simply means you export less and self-consume more, which usually improves your bill. If you are on an export-limited connection we factor the charger into the design so it works within the network rules. We confirm all of that before we quote.
Will the charger work in a blackout? +
Only if it is paired with a battery and a backup gateway, the same as the rest of your home. A standard charger draws from the grid or your solar and shuts down with the grid in an outage. If blackout charging matters to you, we size it in with a battery rather than promising it on a standalone charger.
